The Kern River Valley Historical Society has been in operation for over 40 years. Our mission is to preserve and communicate the rich and colorful history of this region. To achieve these goals we have established the Kern Valley Museum in downtown Kernville next to the Post Office.

Michael Batelaan has spent his forty-year career as an art director, graphic artist, and photographer,...

the past twenty-six years here in the Kern River Valley.

His work in graphic design and photography has garnered him county, state and national awards.

He has been the publisher of the Kern River Courier since 2009.

Michael’s other side is his fine art beginnings in the areas of drawing, painting, sculpture and ceramics.

His work will be on display starting September 7th.

A reception will be held September 9 from 4 to 6 p.m., at the Museum.
