History Days is our annual week-end celebration, in May, of the history of the Kern River Valley and pioneer skills and crafts. All the events are open to the public and includes demonstrations of many aspects of life in 19th century California.
You might see ladies churning butter and serving it on home baked bread. Others will be busy making a new quilt. Out back there could be seen demonstrations of cattle branding, black-smithing, gold panning, assaying gold, wood carving, and basket weaving. There is always music by local performers, some folks in costume and some who look a whole lot like famous personalities.
If you come by Saturday there is a demonstration of Dutch-oven cooking with free samples for as long as the grub holds out. But if you get here late there will surely be cookies and punch. While you are here you can explore our exhibits and visit our gift shop. For all pie bakers there's a contest to enter. Best of all there is no admission and tasting is free!
History Days in 2011 is May 14th & 15th.
