The Kern River Valley Historical Society has been in operation for over 40 years. Our mission is to preserve and communicate the rich and colorful history of this region. To achieve these goals we have established the Kern Valley Museum in downtown Kernville next to the Post Office.

The Kern River Valley Historical society is always doing something interesting and fun.  We have monthly trips to places with historical significance or relevance to life in our region.

In Mid-May we have a weekend event, "History Days", which is a celebration and show of appreciation for the support of our community and visitors to the Museum throughout the year.  We have demonstrations of Dutch-oven cooking, quilting, butter churning, blacksmithing, gold panning and much more.  Admission and refreshments are free.
The event is May 15 & 16, 2010.

In warmer months we host, "Movies under the Stars", in our backyard for members and guests.  Our annual Ice-Cream Social, in July at Greenhorn Mountain is always a welcomed relief from the heat of the Valley.

August, is our annual pot-luck dinner.  September, a picnic to thank our many volunteers.

December, our annual Installation Dinner event.
