Map and Gems Room

Click on "Map Room" on your left for info on the maps on display.

This room houses a large collection of identified minerals and gems, plus many maps old and new hung on the walls for viewing.  A huge map of the entire Kern River drainage is most interesting, made from an actual satellite photo from space.

Viewing the excellent display of geological wonders could inspire a whole new generation of rock hounds.  Here you can also see the FLOURESCENT GLOWING ROCKS display!  Turn out the room lights and turn on the black light.  You will be amazed at the BRILLIANT COLORS of the rocks that look ordinary in regular room light.
