The Kern River Valley Historical Society is celebrating over 50 years of operation! Our mission is to preserve and communicate the rich and colorful history of this region. The Kern Valley Museum in downtown Kernville, next to the Post Office, welcomes visitors to explore our rich history.

What's Happening

Good things are happening at the museum. If you haven’t been to the museum for a while, or even if you have and not noticed some changes, then stop in front of the museum and take a good look at the front and north side. They look much better.
Jeff Jost did a fantastic job of bringing back our old weather-beaten, neglected siding above the porches and making the siding look almost new again.
Robert Rusby was in charge of the job and saw it through from start to finish. We also now have a new sign above the front porch of the Annex. Jerry Moffat did this job for us at half price to help support the museum and did a great job. He also did a new directional “finger-pointing” sign that points to both the museum and annex.
Finally, Bob Romine has made a beautiful new gun case for us.  We’re waiting to install the glass doors and the case will be complete.
Thanks everybody! See you around.
