The Kern River Valley Historical Society is celebrating over 50 years of operation! Our mission is to preserve and communicate the rich and colorful history of this region. The Kern Valley Museum in downtown Kernville, next to the Post Office, welcomes visitors to explore our rich history.

What's Happening

All our wonderful crew are so helpful with the visitors that arrive, it makes me proud to work at the museum. We have visitors from EVERYWHERE! It is so fun to visit with them and learn where they come from.

When they arrive in the Country Store, it’s our opportunity to “Meet and Greet” them. All the docents do a wonderful job of telling how to get through our museum and feel welcome. The gift shop is always full of goodies and books to buy and we do that well.

Welcome to Kathie Orton, who is our new buyer for the gift shop. There are three of us who try and keep on top of what to buy and where to put it!! Cindy Ott does a superb job of keeping our bookshelves interesting, and she also buys lots of gift items.

Kathie will be in charge of rocks, kids’ things and whatever she thinks should sell. I pay the bills and buy the cards, shirts and various other things.

We are always looking for new ideas, so come on in and chat!
